Quail Run Vineyards, started in 1989 by Don and Traute Moore on 13 acres in Talent, has increased to 280 acres at 10 locations. We carefully select sites that can grow a variety of wine grapes successfully. Each site has its own special soil, elevation, microclimate and orientation to the sun suited to particular types of grapes. We take great pride in continuing the farming tradition of the pioneers who first settled this beautiful valley and cared for the land as we do today.
European vineyards have been established for centuries, but in Southern Oregon we are still learning what varieties grow best and where they are ideally planted. We constantly experiment with new clones, different trellis systems, and the proper irrigation for each type of grape. To our delight, we are learning that, in addition to the usual Bordeaux and Burgundy varietals, many others from France’s Rhone region, Spain, Chile and Argentina do exceptionally well and we enjoy introducing them to our customers.
We practice sustainable agriculture by using cover crops to enrich the soil and provide a variety of habitats for the creatures that live among the vines. We use drip irrigation to conserve water. Our skilled work crews carefully custom prune each vine based on its individual vigor and tend the vines throughout the season to achieve grapes of the best possible flavor. Our harvesting is done by hand.
We sell grapes to over 20 wineries in many parts of Oregon. Our close working partnership with our winemakers allows us to custom grow grapes to their specifications and winemaking style. At South Stage Cellars you can taste the results as we present to you an array of fine wines that have won top awards throughout the country.
